Silver Brooch

I made a thing for a friend! I had the opportunity to make silver brooch for a friend of mine that was there when I first started in the SCA and has been a great inspiration to me along the way, Johannes von Braunschweig. I am glad that he was recognized for his crafts with this award, and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to make for him this token.
Inspired by images of brooches part of the Skaill Hoard, part of the largest Viking Age silver hoard found in Scotland, and believed to have been created by a silversmith on the Isle of Mann. While I drew decorative inspiration, this Silver Brooch was crafted to match the heraldic design of the Order of the Silver Brooch.
The original is carved from wax. Then cast using investment, or lost wax process, from fine silver.
