The Yankee Pilgrim badge

November 2018

This is a piece that was meant for Arne Ulrichson as a gift on the event of his elevation into the order of Chivalry. I could not make it to his actual elevation, but I was able to present him with this token at the Crown Tournament of Wilhelm von Ostenbrücke and Vienna de la Mer.
This pilgrim badge was fabricated in the style of lettered badges. The primary source of inspiration was a replica of a “B”. Knowing Arne’s team allegiance I went with more of an “NY” motif.
I was overjoyed at his exuberant response to seeing the finished pieces for the first time, and a great bringer of joy to me to know how much he enjoys them

Cast Pewter from carved soapstone.
Inspired by period pilgrim badge replica design and Arne’s love of the Yankees.

A woodcutting illustration from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales was slightly altered to change the pilgrims staff into a bat.
